HK Prize provides young people an opportunity to showcase their talent and build a good reputation, winning cash prizes, travel expenses and other perks in various fields. The competition is open to Southeast Asian residents, mainland Chinese citizens and international applicants. The South China Morning Post’s infographics and photojournalism teams have won four prizes at the World Association of Newspaper Publishers (Wan-Ifra) Asian Media Awards 2024 in Singapore. The team behind the gold-winning entry Uncovering Hong Kong’s secret land grab, which was also shortlisted for best newspaper infographics, used maps, illustrations, video, animation and photography to explain how the wealthy take over public lands to turn them into private estates.

In a separate award category, the team behind a series of videos highlighting the impact of smog won a bronze. The video Breathing in Hong Kong, which was also shortlisted for best news and current affairs video, shows how smog has affected people’s lives in Hong Kong. It has received more than two million views on YouTube and has been screened at international film festivals.

Artistic talent is well represented at this year’s hk prize, with winners from the Fine Arts and Young Artist divisions. Pakistani sculptor Sameen Agha won the Grand Prize for her work, A Home is a Terrible Place to Love, a red marble piece that depicts a house crumbling apart like a cardboard box.

The HK Prize has been running for more than 20 years and is a platform to encourage young people to be creative and express themselves. It also allows students to gain invaluable internship experience in leading organisations in the city. It is open to students from tertiary institutions in Southeast Asia, China and the rest of the world. The top teams will win cash prizes and internship experience in Hong Kong.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is a merit-based award sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited. The Charter is designed to promote scientific and standardized management of the Prize, with an independent review procedure for its operation. The judging panel is composed of experts from different sectors. In order to ensure the impartiality of the evaluation process, the board of the HK Prize has set up a Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team to oversee the operation. A Secretariat has also been set up to handle the day-to-day work of the HK Prize. This includes liaison and coordination between the Board, the Review Committee and the Compliance Oversight Team, as well as setting requirements for nominating experts. It is also responsible for executing decisions and managing the overall evaluation of the candidates. It will also hold interdisciplinary academic activities and science popularization activities.
