This year’s HK Prize winners will share a total of HK$2 million to develop their ideas and projects into viable business solutions that could transform Hong Kong’s economy. The competition, now in its sixth edition, is open to students and young professionals aged 18-30 from all over the world.

The HK$8 million first division prize money at the 2023/24 horse racing season will be raised by 8 per cent, with increases coming in every class of race from Griffins to Class 1 and 4-year-old Classic Series races. In addition, the prize money will include bonus money to encourage more entries to Group racing events like Longines Hong Kong International Races and FWD Champions Day.

Those who wish to enter the HK Prize should submit an application form before the closing date of 31 August 2024. Detailed instructions and the entry form can be found at http://www.hkjockeyclub.com/hk/html/hkprize.html.

In the past, the HK Prize has attracted some of the region’s top talent and provided valuable career opportunities for winning entrants. The winners of the HK Prize will be selected by a panel of judges and announced at a ceremony in September, with each entrant receiving an award certificate.

Last year, the HKFA announced that it will change its voting procedure to increase transparency and fairness, with voting conducted in January through March each year. Voting on eligible films will be open to all professional film workers, including members of thirteen local film bodies. The HKFA will also introduce a new set of awards to reflect the needs of the industry, with more specialised prizes for different categories.

The South China Morning Post has won 12 prizes at the 2024 Hong Kong News Awards, including a top prize in the Best Scoop category for Edith Lin and Jeffie Lam for their work on exposing illegal structures being added to luxury homes. This is the third time that the Post has won in this category and the first time that two staff members have shared the honours.

The HK prize fund is created by deductions made from the total bets placed in each Mark Six Entry, with 54% of the bets going towards the Prize Fund. This is a transparent method of funding and allows the HK Jockey Club to offer the highest prize money in Asia. The Prize Fund is audited annually by independent auditors and the details of the bets are made public. The HK Jockey Club also takes steps to ensure the Draw is fair, with employees of the security and customer service departments checking and testing all materials used in the Draw from boxing through to transport. The balls used are also weighed, measured and inspected by X-ray on a regular basis. If no winner is drawn for the first prize, the amount that would have been paid out will be added to a Jackpot (Duo Bao Jiang), which is accumulated in subsequent draws and can reach up to HK$100 million.
