Sydney Bramen, 17, is a squash player at Philadelphia’s Baldwin School and plans to attend Georgetown University next year, where she will study business. But the 17-year-old also has a knack for data science and hopes to use it to help tackle issues like education inequality, which she sees in action when tutoring younger students through Philadelphia volunteer organizations SquashSmarts and OurVillage.

She’s one of the youngest speakers at this week’s Women in Data Science (WiDS) @ Penn conference, which is co-hosted by Analytics at Wharton, Penn Engineering, and Wharton Customer Analytics. The virtual event, which is open to people of all genders, will feature academic, student, and industry speakers from across the world.

Data sdy is an intermediate unit that focuses on developing data analytic skills for a variety of problems and data models. Students will learn how to ingest, combine and summarise data using various data modeling techniques as well as reinforce their programming skills by learning a statistical programming language. This course is ideal for students who have a background in mathematics, computer science and statistics. In addition, this unit introduces the SQL query languages that are industry standard and will make it easier for students to access our cloud infrastructure as part of their multi-cloud strategy.
